An introduction to the poetry of David Bushrod

photo of David BushrodDavid Bushrod is a poet, librettist and author living in Bridport, Dorset. This website presents some samples of his best-known work, Marshwood Vale, as well as his more recent work, Sevilliana. David says "I hope my site will introduce people to my poetry and enable them to judge whether they like it. If they do, I encourage them to buy books directly from me. The editions page explains why this is a good idea."

David Bushrod was born in 1938. He grew up mainly in Wiltshire and the Isle of Wight but has lived most of his adult life in Dorset. He studied literature at university and as well as poetry he has written humorous and nostalgic essays and the libretti for three chamber operas. All of these have music by Brian Parkhurst and two of them, The Devil's Trill and Echo and Narcissus, are available for performance. Brian has also composed two song cycles for mixed voices based on poems from Marshwood Vale.
